Emergency Gear

Obviously, no-one wants to think about an emergency happening, but unfortunately sometimes it happens. This is why it’s important to be prepared. You can purchase or pack your own emergency roadside kit which should include a basic first aid kit, reflective warning triangles in case your car breaks down, an extra cell phone battery that is charged, a flashlight, blankets, a couple bottles of water, and some high-protein snacks.

Extra Set of Car Keys

Imagine being hundreds of miles from home only to lock your keys in the car. This is exactly why it’s a good idea to bring an extra set of car keys with you and keep them on you. If you are traveling with others, you can even give them the spare set so that someone should always have the keys.

Comfort Items

The driver obviously can’t take advantage of these items but your passengers sure will appreciate them! You can pack a couple blankets, pillows, or neck pillows to make the drive a bit more comfy.

Snacks and Drinks

Bringing your own drinks and snacks is an absolute must on car trips. It will save you from having to make tons of stops and it’s cheaper than buying things along the way. You can make up sandwiches in advance and pack them in a cooler, make bags of trail mix, bring granola bars, chips, and anything else that is easy to snack on. As for drinks, water is your best bet as it will keep you hydrated and alert.

A Garbage Can

As you get further and further along in your road trip there is no doubt that the garbage in the car will also start to grow. It’s a good idea to make your own travel-sized garbage can that you can empty each day. A plastic cereal with a lid is a great option. You can place a bag inside it to line it, making it easy for garbage removal.

Maps or GPS

Getting lost on a car trip is not only stressful it also ends up wasting time and gas. The best way to avoid getting lost is to purchase maps in advance to plan your route, or use your GPS device to plan the route. GPS devices are ideal because they will also show you dining, accommodation, shopping, and gas locations along the route.
